is wrong in so many ways, but that’s what I did today. It’s 55 degrees in the middle of January, absolutely no snow to be seen anywhere, so there I was peddling away. I didn’t even need a fleece jacket.
I should be cross-country skiing. Digging my way out of snow drifts. Kicking the snow pack out from beneath my car.
Most people I know love this mild weather, but it’s just not right. From what I understand, we need the snow pack for agricultural and water table reasons. We need the freeze. Snow and freezing weather is an important part of the ecology up western/upstate New York. What are the ramifications of this mild winter. How will it affect our water table, our plant life, our animal life?
So, don’t go telling me how wonderful this weather is. Even though I’m making the most of it by being out on my bike, I’d rather be on my skis, paused within a pine stand, listening to the whoosh of the wind mixing with the thump of my heart.
