I’ve started turning my papers for AERA into presentations. It’s always a tough decision picking out what I want to share and what gets left out. I have to remember that the presentation is intended to try out the central ideas, not to give the entire data dump. The good thing about turning a paper into a presentation is that is really helps you identify areas of redundancy and lack of clarity. It’s also a lot of work. The good thing though is that the papers are done.
The bad thing is, I backed off on the book chapter I had been asked to do. There was just no way I could have anything of value written by the due date. I have been focusing on the paper/article for AERA and a journal. I also need to revise two articles that I received a revise and resubmit to. I’m really looking forward to summer because I want to turn focused attention to them. I am trying to balance between teaching and writing, and while I think I’m doing better (now that I’ve stepped away from spending so much time collecting data and doing work at Literacy Volunteers), I still have a long way to go.
And I miss LVR. Well, I miss the students, but I love having the time back. There’s no winning, is there.
