My daily paper has a weekly feature where some interior designer gives some slump advice on how to decorate their house. Hey, I could use the help too. I’m as slumpy as the next. But after this week’s advice, I think I’m better off with my home grown decorating sense.
In this week’s it was a story about a long rectangular living room with a fireplace in the middle of the wall. Pretty standard fare for local colonial style homes. The decorator recommended putting the flat screen tv over the fireplace. I don’t own a tv, but I can understand the urge to put it there. That way you don’t have battling focal points.
Then the couple said they weren’t sure what to put on the bookshelves that were built into the wall on either side of the fireplace.
Um, books maybe?
Well the decorator came in with this kitschy stuff from some discount store to show them ideas. One of the ideas was those “words” like “Imagine” in some pseudowood or metal in fancy or plain script. She said words were popular.
I thought it funny that books were not part of the picture for bookshelves but some mass produced discount store word was.
The cynic in me wants to say more, but I’m tired of being so negative. My next post will be positive.
I promise.
