I’ve been wanting to write about this for a few days, but other things got in the way. The day I wrote about stasis, I was listening to NPR and someone was talking about stasis and how important it is to allow ourselves to experience this state. Modern society forces us to go go go, and this author was arguing that the winter solstice which is a time of stasis, is part of our natural rhythms; by denying ourselves the opportunity to experience this “waiting” period as he called it, we are denying our bodies, our souls, and our minds the opportunity to recover and to prepare for creative work. It was reassuring to hear.
